Stretch Your Muscles... Posted Aug 24, 2009 by Lizz Pugh, LMT
For crafters, knitters, writers, artists, and other hobbyists, it's important to stretch your muscles during and after a session, just as you would if you were exercising. Any repetitive use of a muscle can lead to problems. Increasing blood flow and flexibility is important to prevent them.
Good Posture... Posted July 09, 2009 by Lizz Pugh, LMT
If you sit on one foot or cross your legs do your best to break the habit. You will end up creating areas in your body that are contracted and weakened and others that are lengthened and weakened. Muscles will have to overcompensate while others will lose muscle tone. If you aren't comfortable sitting with good posture check your chair. It might need to be replaced.
Ease Your Headache... Posted May 29, 2009 by Ellen Teeter, AP
Here’s a simple exercise you can do the next time you feel a headache coming on.
- Feel along the back of the head with your thumbs where it meets the neck and try and find tender spots, there is usually one behind the bump in back of the ears. Press and rub this point as forcefully as you can stand for 30-90 seconds.
- Now feel with your thumbs along the depression behind the bone to the side of the eyes. Feel up and down the groove for the most tender spot and press and rub this point as forcefully as you can for 30-90 seconds.
- The final step is to locate the tender spot on the web between the forefinger and thumb and again press and rub this point as forcefully as you can stand for 30-90 seconds. Repeat on the other side.
Stretch and Rehydrate... Posted May 28, 2009 by Lizz Pugh, LMT
Use Outlook or the alarm on your watch to go off at set intervals. When you see or hear the reminder, it's time to take a little walk to the water cooler, rehydrate, and stretch a little bit. Keeping water on your desk is even better; as long as you continue to get up and move around on a regular basis.
Try to drink water during the day. Sweet drinks and sodas make it easy to drink in large amounts of calories and sugar without being aware of it. Save those drinks as treats for when you can really enjoy them. You'll save money, drink more water, and possibly even lose weight.
